This paper has three major sections. In the first of these, we discuss why hybrid transactional analytic processing (HTAP) is a good idea. In the second, we consider what sort of features you should be looking for in an HTAP solution. In particular, the key to supporting HTAP is the combination of column and row storage and the use of in-memory capabilities. And, on top of this, you need to be able to optimise performance on the one hand, while minimising resource utilisation on the other. Finally, we discuss how the EsgynDB product meets these, and other, requirements of HTAP processing.
