PKWARE is a software company that was founded in 1986. Its early claim to fame was in data compression and extraction, including the first implementation of the ZIP file format with its PKZIP product, but in 2023 it largely offers data discovery and protection via its PK Protect product suite.

To this end, PKWARE acquired Dataguise in 2020, which at the time was a market leader in detecting, protecting, and monitoring sensitive data and identities across any and all data repositories, both on-premises and in the cloud. These capabilities have since been incorporated into the PK Protect suite, which previously had catered specifically to endpoints. As a result, PK Protect now provides a holistic solution for sensitive data discovery and security.
