The internet has expanded rapidly, not just in terms of the number of users, but also the number of devices that connect to it. It is estimated that there are currently five billion devices connecting to internet services, but that is expected to expand to 50 billion by 2020. Such factors make it a prime vector of attack for criminals who are using increasingly sophisticated and insidious attack methods.
The internet was originally developed with availability, connectivity and ease of use as its core principles. To deal with its increased scale, there are a number of changes being made that improve both its availability and scalability. Whilst these changes are not specifically designed to improve security, they do have implications for security. This document regarding those security implications and aims to help organisations in their preparations for embracing these changes in a secure manner.
