We have all heard of bin diving as a great way of finding out what people are up to, but what about dump diving?
According to this report Chase Card Services in the US are a bit concerned that a number of their backup tapes have been—erm—accidentally put out with the rubbish.
The tapes contained personal data of 2.6 million customers and ended up in the local municipal land fill along with all the other rubbish. Apparently the data was secured in a locked box if that makes you feel any better.
Yet again the weakest link in the security chain has failed, in this case no doubt completely innocently by some cleaner.
