Printronix was founded in 1974 and its first product was a 300-line-per-minute line printer. Printronix went public in 1976 and traded on the Nasdaq. Printronix acquired RJS and entered the scanner/verifier market in 2001. In 2008, Printronix was acquired by Vector Capital and became a private company. Printronix acquired its closest competitor, TallyGenicom in the following year. At the beginning of 2013, Printronix was acquired by Corona Investment Partners.
