Aerospike was originally founded in 2009 and its database was first introduced in 2010. However, at that time the company was known as Citrusleaf, changing its name to Aerospike in 2012. The product was open sourced in 2014. It is available both on bare metal platforms and across a variety of cloud platforms. A managed service offering is also offered, and the company supports both Kubernetes and Pivotal Cloud Foundry.

When it first came to market, the company concentrated on systems of engagement (SOE), especially in markets such as AdTech, but it has since expanded to offer systems of record (SOR) as well as a more cross-industry focus wherever there is a requirement for real-time, mission critical, strategic at scale deployment. More than half of its user base (more than 200 clients, including PayPal, Kyocera, Amdocs, Barclays amongst others) have been as replacements for existing systems.

The company’s headquarters are in California and it also has offices in London, Israel and India.
