Configuration Management, Expert guidance for IT service managers and practitioners (Revised edition) by Shirley Lacy and David Norfolk has just been published by the publishing arm of the BCS. Effective Configuration Management, in my opinion, is one of the key pillers supporting Governance, IT service management, security and, in fact, most of the business environment.

This book is a practical guide based on input from actual practitioners. Far be it for me to review my own work, but according to Krikor Maroukian, Project Manager, Printec S.A., this is ‘A masterfully crafted synthesis of experience, workshops, interviews and case studies, [and] is an invaluable contribution to the governance of continual configuration management improvement. It also accurately references IT service management processes.’

It provides further reading for my series of introductory articles on Configuration Management for The Register:

Config management: Enemy of agile approach or the reason it WORKS?

So you think you know all about configuration management?

Tool time: Implementing configuration management, properly – don’t be a CM fashion victim
