Viamedici – major new software version

Viamedici is a master data management vendor (MDM) that was founded in 1999 and headquartered in Ettlingen, Germany. They have over 400 customers, targeting large and medium industrial companies. Their customers include Schaeffler, Emerson and Kyocera. They provide solutions to the following industries: manufacturing, medical, electronics, and engineering, but also the building industry, furniture, farming, CPG, retail and healthcare. They offer industry-specific templates for a number of these in order to speed implementation. Viamedici is known for its high level of customer satisfaction, with an exceptionally high 99.3% retention rate. They have global customers, provide strong translation and multi-language capabilities and their solution is often used together with SAP and Salesforce.

In July 2024 Viamedici launched a major new version of their core software, called EPIM5. The software covers multi-domain MDM, product information management, digital asset management and dynamic product configuration, allowing rapid customization of products for particular customers. Features include digital shelf management, multi-channel marketing, guided selling and personalization. The core software includes data quality and data governance functionality, and runs on either public clouds (AWS, Azure) or private cloud. There is a sustainability module that includes carbon emission reporting for ESG, digital product passports (DPP) and Electronic Product Declarations (EPDs).

New in EPIM5 is a re-designed user interface that includes the latest in user-centric design and UX standards and greatly enhances usability, productivity and navigation. EPIM5 has enhanced scalability and performance, and support for Kubernetes. The software is now composable from independent components, as so-called “MACH” architecture (Microservices-based, API-first, Cloud-native, and Headless).

There is a new artificial intelligence (AI) hub with pre-built links to ChatGPT, Google Vision AI and DeepL for translation into other languages. AI translation in conjunction with workflow significantly reduces NPI to regional markets. The EPIM Chatbot is based on Viamedici’s own AI technology, which is produced from a dedicated development centre in Romania. This Chatbot is trained on the Viamedici training material and API specifications so it can improve the productivity of people implementing and using the product.

In addition, there is an enhanced product maintenance module with improved grouping of information and layout and enhanced master data governance features. Users can now better manage data across multiple data domains and visualize relationships between different data types. There is a Web2print automation cockpit, enhanced digital shelf analytics and optimization, and better tracking and analytic functions. All in all, this is a major software release.

Viamedici is a private company that invests heavily in research and development as opposed to extensive marketing. This focus shines through in their product functionality and customer satisfaction. Their organic growth and conservative approach to delivering a strong product offering has enabled them to consistently grow their customer base (20% revenue growth last year with 45 brand new customers). If you are looking at a strong MDM solution, particularly if you are an industrial customer, then Viamedici is worth a good long look.
