To make an ICT product accessible it needs to be designed to support the widest possible range of abilities, this process is described by the phrase ‘Design for All’.
Although there has been a great deal of discussion and research into design for all, the fundamentals have not permeated the ICT design and development course up to now. This lack of education has definitely hindered the creation of accessible product.
So I am delighted that my friends at Middlesex University have made the following announcement:
- A Masters (MSC) course in Digital Inclusion. The course is designed for people working in ICT who want to significantly increase their understanding of digital inclusion and design for all.
- A Teaching Design for All in ICT Summer School. The course will help teachers of ICT to incorporate Design for All into their ICT Courses.
- A Digital Inclusion information and recruitment event. A 1 day free event on 15 May to introduce the concepts and the other courses.
I hope to see you on 15 May so we can all drive forward accessible ICT.
