The Inaccessibility of Tesco Direct

Tesco have just launched a new web site direct.tesco.com. After my review of Tesco Access, I was looking forward to another good site.

The first signs were good: a link to an accessiblity page and a skip to content link.

Unfortunately it then went rapidly down hill. The tabs to the various departments have dropped downs that only become visible with a mouse-over, I do not normally use a mouse so most of the site is inaccessible to me.

The interesting thing is that the automated testing tools found no errors on the page. Which just shows that user testing is essential, as I discussed in Manual website inspection is necessary but not sufficient.

I have not had time to do a more thourough investigation of the site so would be interested in anyone else’s experiences.
