The domain name system (DNS) is essential for the efficient functioning of the internet as it allows for machine-readable code that computers use for identifying websites to be translated into words that humans can easily understand. However, it was not designed with security in mind and contains some serious flaws that can be exploited. This paper explain how DNSSEC can help secure the DNS system, looks at the current state of adoption and provides pointers for organisations to consider as to how it will help them protect their brands and reputations and guard against financial harm resulting from a security incident involving DNS.
