Data Warehouse Automation

There are two common approaches to this issue: one of which is model-driven and the other is driven by metadata. We have no opinion about which is the better approach, primarily because it all comes down to implementation: how easy is it to use the tool in question and how automated does it make the processes involved in creating and managing your warehouse or lake? We should add that ongoing maintenance of the environment is as important, if not more so, than the original creation of the warehouse/lake. These are continuously updated and may require schema changes from time to time: the ability to support change in the ongoing environment is as critical as the savings, in time and money, that derive from automating the initial creation.
