ARM designs the chip technology underlying much of the digitial economy. ARM Holdings was founded in 1990 and claims to be the world’s leading supplier of intellectual property (IP) for semiconductor chips – it designs the chips, leaving its partners to build them. Its HQ is in the UK but it has 28 offices around the world, including design centers in China, Taiwan, France, India, Sweden, and the US.
It supplies designs for 32-bit RISC microprocessors, graphics processors, enabling software, cell libraries, embedded memories, high-speed connectivity products, peripherals and development tools. It offers comprehensive design services, training, support and maintenance, but its value is delivered through its broad partner community.
ARM has an interesting partnership with LogMeIn over its New Development cloud plaform and Xively development kit for “Internet of Things” apps.
